The 3/5 compromise was related to Direct Taxation. In the days prior to the Civil War, and for many years afterwards, this referred to Property (Real) Taxes.
During the period in question the Federal Govt. was funded primarily via ad-valorem taxation, most specifically, import duties.

I don't see how any of that contradicts or supports my point. You just agreed that it was directly related to taxes, just stating that it wasn't the primary source of taxes for the entire country means very little.
