I don't either side won. Winning a war is about one's enemy surrendering, capitulating, or accepting terms denoting their loss. The USA beat the CSA, the Allies beat the Axis, or the British beat the Zulus and Benin on these bases.

The British gave nothing to the USA, nor the USA to the UK at that time. I don't think Canada won the war, even if the US won most of the battles.

The USA accepted terms denoting their loss, the treaty did not even mention the reasons the US declared war for.

The reasons the US declared war for were not the real main reasons. The British accepted a less favorable treaty than they could have gotten to get the war over with. The US made its point about impressment and so on. If it was even a pretext for war, Britain should have gotten the message.

Russia won the War of 1812. There is no way the US could take on Britain alone. It is like saying Bulgaria lost WWI.

Historic flag of War of 1812 flies again

Historic flag of War of 1812 flies again - Windsor - CBC News

Quote:
Windsor's Community Museum will feature an artifact that may have been part of one of the most significant battles fought during the War of 1812.

The Tecumseh Flag will be unveiled in February and remain on display until January 2013.

The flag, measuring 2.5 metres by one metre, is said to have covered the body Chief Tecumseh after he was killed during the Battle of the Thames during the War of 1812.
