Eva had the great good fortune to die before she could do any serious damage to her country and before people got her number. So she became "Santa Evita' to many Argentines. The Catholic church politely declined requests to seriously consider her canonisation.
Well, her husband did all the damage for her instead. For 30 years the only issue in Argentinian politics was Peron and Peronism and what to do about them.

Yes I apologize for taking it a little bit off track here, so I'll give my answer so I don't bog the thread down.

To your question, that, I think is certainly a case of being both. I'm no expert at all on the Perons, but I know she was established a rapport with the unions and the working class. She might have been gaudy on her trips abroad or at home, but I think she contributed generally positively to Argentinean society.

Still, her time in office was short, its hard really to say what would have happened in the long run.

I would go for the exact same options as noted in the OP. I'm not trying to answer the question for S-o-C, just chipping in!

Eva never held formal office, though Peron did try and make her vice president. She was in charge of the Eva Peron Foundation, a charitible organization. Peron's second wife, Isabela, was elected President after Juan's death... but she was overthrown in a coup.

Eva was an opportunist who did genunely care for her people. It's not unusual for a person to be a bit of a saint and scoundrel.

I had a phase, after the musical and movie Evita, in which I was fascinated in the Perons and read a lot about them. What happened after Eva's death to her body is an amazing story.

During my Peron period, I was also collecting autographs. I couldn't afford an autography of Evita, but did acquire one of Juan Peron during his second Presidency. It is pretty nice, a letter on official stationery of the President of Argentina.
