Historically what is the best state in the union

What is the Best State in the Union Historically?

I saw this on another forum. I do not want to start any arguments but it gives us a good chance to learn bout other states.

by best historically I mean which state has had an impact on the growth of this country, which state has been considered "the place to be" for the longest time etc.

Well, we are all history buffs here and the best state for history buffs is: VIRGINIA! We've got 400 years of the stuff!

Wyoming- the absolute most worthless state. It's so worthless that we decided to give a big chunk of it to the animals. Has anyone even been there?
California matters, but I would just as soon see it fall into the Ocean than admit its worth.
New Mexico- I've never really seen the point of New Mexico. I think it was just the extra space left over from Arizon and Colorado.
The Dakotas- Why do we need two of them? Instead of having one sparsely populated empty space, we have two.
Texas- we need it for oil and for Walker Texas Ranger, two vital national security needs.
Connecticut- its got a long ass name, but its tiny. It's name should be Con. Basically it's only use is as a word for National Spelling Bee's.
Nevada- well, we gotta test our nukes somewhere.
Alaska- oil, and it makes us seem bigger than we actually are in the CIA World Fact Book.
Maryland- the left overs from Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Massachusetts- really hard to spell. Too many limosine liberals.
Montana- first line of defense against the Canadians.
Utah- convenient place to store our mormons.
Alabama- convenient place to store our rednecks.
Georgia- we need the Dukes of Hazard.
Iowa- we need them because corn farmers are notoriously better at choosing who should lead our country than anybody else. It's something in the corn.
New Hampshire- They're also very good at selecting national leaders. It must be something in the...rocks?
Mississippi- *see Alabama.

lol, that is seriously funny, but land is still land. I only went to like 1 of the states you've mentioned. Wyoming has the least population (omg alaska has more!). It is still the 10th largest state.
California is the most populus state, the government would go crazy if we lost it -_-. Um, running out of time, but land is still useful. Countries would kill for any land... Do you think Tajikstan is better...

I have to agree with Lucius. My homestate of North Carolina has some racism in it's past like all southern states. By the way I consider myself an American and not a "redneck" of the south or a "yankee" of the north like some people around here. My homestate has the largest banking center next to New York and a good business in agriculture, it is also the only place to grow venus fly traps. There's a lot of history here too like the Wright brothers flight, the first university in the country was opened here, and Babe Ruth hit his first career home run here. During the Civil War North Carolina's troops were among the best equipped in the Confederate army but also were among the highest casualty rate of any of the states. People around here are proud of their Conferate ancestory while I am not, I know that most Confederate troops fought for their homes and their family and it's their leaders that are truly disgraceful and the fact that they were fighting for their family and their home gave them a reason to fight while the people around here have no reason to display that flag.

Sounds on topic to me. But no matter, anytime one can work a baseball statistic in I'm all for it.

New Jersey, The Garden State. So called because that is where they planted Jimmy Hoffa. Now that is history!
