Still hard feelings between Northerners and Southerners?

As seen in the Tips for Tourists thread, I saw a little resurgence in the attitude between southerners and northerners.

Does that mean it still sorta exists ?

It does. Though definitely a Yankee I have no problem with Southerners - except for when they behave in a way that fulfils the stereotypes.

More than sorta. You have to understand, Mohammed, that the divisions created by the ACW were enormous. The city of Vicksburg didn't officially celebrate the fourth of July until WWII because it left such a bitter taste in their mouth. While MOST of the enmity has subsided, their are still many who keep it alive and well.

Is this purely an American question, or is it general Northerners and Southerners from where ever?

I don't think we can compare the North/South divide in GB with the American civil war Alani,so i would say this is definately directed towards the Americans.

Why? I thought both sides celebrated it during your civil war after all it was the date of independence from Britain. Or did Vicksburg feel that that was just a federal thing and did not relate to the south.

I suppose it was because a lot of the South didn't want independance so when it came they found no reason to celebrate it.

I say no. The internet banter among Yankees and Rebels is harmless. It is like "bragging rights" when one school football team beats its rival. Essentially meaningless.

I lived in both north and south for considerable time and nope there is nothing that I ever witnessed or detected that would support the OP.

In relatively recent times the only example of what the Op speaks to is Niel Young's "Southern Man" answered by LYNYRD SKYNYRD "Sweet Home Alabama"

"One of the verses is an attack on Neil Young: "I hope Neil Young will remember a southern man don't need him around anyhow." Young had written songs like "Southern Man" and "Alabama," which implied that people in the Southern US were racist and stuck in the past. Skynyrd responded with this, a song about Southern pride and all the good things in Alabama. The feud between Lynyrd Skynyrd and Neil Young was always good-natured fun; they were actually big fans of each other. Ronnie Van Zant often wore Neil Young T-shirts on stage and is wearing one on the cover of Street Survivors, the last Skynyrd album before his death."
