This isn't convincing at all. The Calusa turned back Leon's small (about 200) band of Spanish; the other Indian groups in this thread dealt with thousands of Europeans/Americans. Not at all the same thing.

And the Calusa's resistance to missionaries is not comparable to northern Florida Indians. The Calusa were hundreds of miles southeast of the primary Spanish settlement in north-east Florida (St. Augustine) that northern Florida Indians had to contend with. The tiny and short-lived attempt at a mission in Biscayne Bay is almost non-consequential.

I don't mean to demean the Calusa in any way, but comparing what they faced compared to other U.S. Indian groups is way off-base.
