Cartier and Champlain and the French in America in general were rather nice as far as colonists go, and the Jesuits were rather nice as far as anybody at all goes, but the activities of the initial explorers, who were predominately Spanish, Portuguese, and English, blatantly disproves the idea that the settling of the New World was for purely innocent reasons.
About the French, i do love them, but offering scalps of their enemies for bounties is not my idea as being more nice than all the rest.
