I think he has a point that isn't often considered by popular opinion. However, i do understand that popular opinion needs a villain to go with a constructed story. When it comes to American history, particularly the Civil War and generally Southerners, the villainy often portrayed in a medium often comes from here. I don't recall ever seeing a story portraying anyone from the Union or it's cause as psychopathic yet.

Anyways... who am to buck the trend? Which is why i sometimes kid around about being a redneck neanderthal with global ambitions of national and then world domination. It is what people are led to perceive and so it seems they have come to accept it and want it to be that way. So ,Prepare for thy doom! Bwah-ha, ha, ha, ha, ha

I merely asked a question. If you start a thread, expect responses, some of which might hit a nerve I guess.

Sorry botully, I started 2 threads yesterday. I do not regret that even though I have been pounded on the Thanksgiving thread. I apologize for assuming that your question was spiteful in some way.

When the US media portrays racists they are predominately white, male, poor, rural, and southern.

Thank you Fiver, do you want to know another unpleasant reality in the way the media portrays white southerners?

You would think from the coverage that white southern males are a menace to the black community. In truth there are almost no crimes committed by whites against the black community. I do not mean to take the thread off topic, I simply want to explain why I get frustrated about how things are portrayed.

Back to the topic, I would like to ask Southerners, why do you believe that the Civil War was not about slavery?

Actually, no. According to my wife, who tried to get me to watch it with her when we first got married, it didn't have enough gore to satisfy my southern blood lust. Too much touchy feely romance

However, she skipped over the most beneficial information, a psychopathic Yank. I'm sold! Wonder if she is still interested in watching it now.

Truthfully, we can't say that the issue didn't touch civil war America at some level of society. It did, but not in the way most think, i believe. I think the Confederate government would have had a very hard time raising an army if they truthfully told the Southern volunteers they were fighting for the planting class rights to own slaves, rather than a states right to decide what was best for itself.

Yes, a psycophathic Yank, and Scarlett blows his brains out! If your wife isn't interested, just say "frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!"
