What're your opinions? Some grew some smoked some did both. How do you think it influenced their decisions? Our economy? This was a relatively new drug right? (other than indians?) How would they feel about today's laws? (If that breaks Historum's current topics rule then disregard the last question)

I think the founders enjoyed the fine social aspects of wine and spirits. I don't think they would be on board for trying to regulate the growing of an agricultural product. Now, do I think they would really like a new cash crop? You bet!!

This is baseless, ridiculous and a repeated pothead attempts to
bring some validity and righteousness to their weakness.
Hemp was grown by some Founding Fathers to use as paper, rope
or other items, not to be smoked.
This is one of those issues that pushes my buttons.
I'll stop now before my future words get me banned, but I think
I've said enough that even a blind man can tell what I think of this topic.

Is there any evidence that any of them smoked it that I'm not aware of? Or we just talking urban legends and cute movie one liners?

I'm asking because I'm pretty ignorant on the topic other than the rumors and was wondering if there was any definitive answers as well as the boards opinion on the subject. There's no secrecy that Washington and Jefferson farmed it. Did they smoke it? What about Adams or Franklin? Any other fathers? Thanks for the responses Baltis Quote:

I've said enough that even a blind man can tell what I think of this topic. | Gotta say I was a little taken aback by the passion you showed for this. Why is this such a hot topic? I'm assuming the kids you teach have began to get on your nerves? Is it something you have against pot? I believe we can have a mature, and historically accurate discussion on this. I'm not asking people if they think its wrong or should be legal, just the history and to add a little fun I decided to ask if they thought the fathers would still want it legal. Purely speculative. Of course, you don't have to answer any of these as you have restrained yourself, but if you decide to give it another go I have always respected your opinions.

Thanks for the responses Baltis | Pro-Marijuana groups and your hippies have used the fact that Washington grew hemp to justify legalization for years. There is absolutely no evidence they ever smoked it. Recreational consumption of the drug in the United States didn't even begin until the Jazz age of the 1920's.
