I remember when George H. W. Bush was just plain old George Bush...

Which Johnson? And I'm a little curious about the choice of Ford, if you don't mind explaining further.

I'm split between Johnson and Wilson, both of whom I despise. Much of our current problems are rooted in the Johnson administration. He gets my vote.
And how was working to help the poor, giving African Americans civil rights (and actually enforcing laws dating back to reconstruction), and not starting a nuclear war with the Soviet Union a source of our problems today?

I don't think so at all, just a loop hole to bash. There was an eight year presidential gap between the two.

If you don't count his decisions regarding the Vietnam war, then yes sure. But I am afraid that the Vietnam war does count in my book.

Nixon only has a bad reputation because his lack of ethics were exposed in his lifetime and not a generation later. Had Nixon not been hounded from office, the end run in South East Asia may well have a different outcome, Russia not reversed it's course from Detente and American clients remained in place.
So, no Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, no Iranian revolution, no Cubans in Africa (Angolan Civil War, Ethiopian-Somalia war), no Nicaraguan civil war etc. etc.

Interesting. But I think I will remain sceptical of such rather exceptional and speculative claims.
