Exclamation Historical Preservation thread

This thread is devoted to historical sites in danger of vandalism, development and neglect. Post a description below with photos and a link to the article.

Integral parts of our heritage are being destroyed everday, from historic buildings to acres of battlefield land. As much as we love and discuss History on this forum, It would be a real shame if the historical sites we love so much disappear forever. This forum should promote the preservation of these sites so our children, our grandchildren, and future generations can enjoy them. Your thoughts?

In the picture below is a Comfort Suites hotel currently under construction on Cemetery Hill at Gettysburg, A stones throw away from where my Great Great Great Great Grandfather fought for his life on July 2nd, 1863.

Example:

Gettysburg site for a slots casino sought
GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Could Gettysburg be the next location in Pennsylvania to be approved for slot machines? Local businessman Dave LeVan and a group of unidentified investors are seeking a Category III slots license. That category restricts the size of a facility to no more than 500 machines, and limits patronage to hotel guests or pass-holders.
The Gaming Control Board rejected a LeVan-backed project in 2006 because of its proximity to the Gettysburg battlefield. This time, investors are looking at the 307-room Eisenhower Inn & Conference Center in Cumberland Township as a possible location. - AP

Look up India, any monument, mark my words, look up any monument and you'll yourselves feel ashamed at the neglect that they're suffering from.

Unfortunatley this type of vandalism is a growing problem in Battlefield parks.

this is not about vandalism, just endangered prehistorical site.
Have you see sangiran village in Indonesia? that place is full of fossil. Unfortunately those Javanese sell it to collector not the museum. they say collector will pay more.
Is knowledge really that cheap???

One day, billions of years hence, the sun will expand and incinerate everthing on earth, we're told. Sic transit. I favor the cosmological theory (promulgated by astrophysicists, not druids) that views the past not as vanished but as ineradically woven into the fabric of space-time. Of course, that means I'll never have a clean slate...
