Title says it all. I'm just curious to see how many 'lone nutters' have ruined their lives because they're too impatient to wait out the president's term in office.

There was also a 1 Nov. 1950 attempt on Harry S Truman by two Puerto Ricans.

Also, from 1840 to 1960 every president elected in a year ending in 0 died in office, 3 of them having been assassinated and four dying a natural death. Unfortunately, John Hinckley flubbed the job on Reagan and no one got Bush. Jefferson (1800) and Monroe (1820) also somehow survived the office.

President-elect Franklin Roosevelt survived an assassination attempt when a mentally deranged man fired shots at him in Miami, Florida February 15, 1933. He was riding with Mayor Anton Cermak of Chicago, who was killed. There is a statue of Cermak in a Chicago park that bears his last words. "I'm glad it was me and not you Frank." In a conversation with a Chicago historian I was told that he had seen letters and documents that Cermak's last words were the opposite "I wish it was you Frank". I've never seen this in print. Anyone run across this [odd] footnote?

Apparently George Bush had an attempt. A guy attempted to throw a hand grenade at him but some sercret service guy got to him before and was able to keep the the grip on the grenade and put the pin back in. Didn't know this till I was watching a program on the Secret Service.
