'conquistores'? That's a suspicious title. Have you any reference to that? Recruiters were not specialists, just legionaries and centurions ordered to recruit by senior Romans, or simply servants of consuls/proconsuls in the event of a legion being recruited from scratch.

Well, may be there is a linguistic barrier at international level [I'm noting that googling "conquisitores" I get poor results], but in Italy it's a known figure. So known that I'm surprised it's not known out of Italy.

Conquisitores were senatorial in senatorial provinces and equestrian in imperial provinces.

Cicero [Oration pro militia] and Titus Livius Mention them [if we want Latin sources].

Livy huh? Which book? It will help me track it down.

PS - No, don't bother, I've found the definition. You're quite right - Conquisitores was the Roman name given to recruitment officers
