Ancient Egypt

I was wondering if any of you know any good and reliable books on the history of egypt from it's beginnings to present day. I have searched the internet , but I have found so many that I don't know which to begin with.

Re: Ancient Egypt

These are two that I use just for Egypt. There are several others that mix it up in Egypt, the levant, and the Mediterranean. I don't know any books for modern day, sorry.:

"The Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt", by Margaret Bunson, is a good source.

Re: Ancient Egypt

You may want to start with the Ian Shaw for an overview and then select a period, a king or a topic. BTW present day is too much.

Re: Ancient Egypt

sorry, my mistake. By present day I wanted to say more recent times such as the beginning of the 20th century.

Re: Ancient Egypt

Good luck on this one! You will find many good books on what you seek, but there are volumes available in order to get all you are asking.

When I went to Egypt in 2001 I was thinking one day that my own country's history would be a single page in a 350 page book when compared with the history of Egypt.

You might want to break down your search into time periods and seek a few volumes here and there for each period, digging deeper when you find a time period that really facinates you.

Have fun! You are beginning what may be a life long study!
