The Samnites before the gates of Rome - Historum

After listening to Dan Carlin's excellent fourth instalment of his 'Death throes of the republic' podcast, he mentions how a large Samnite army was defeated outside of Rome by Sulla. I wasn't previously aware of this - can anyone give me any more info about it?

During the Social Wars, Gaius Papius Mutilus, a Samnite, led his forces against the Romans, kicking their arses seven way from Sunday in the initial stages. Mutilus was finally beaten at Acerrae, in Campania, by L. Julius Caesar, and by Sulla at Bovianum, in Samnium, where he sacked the city. I don't believe that Mutilus ever made it to Rome but I could be mistaken.

He might be talking about the action around the Collinas Gate around 88 B.C The Roman leader then was Sulla, with a young Crassus playing a key role commanding his left flank. A Temple to Fortuna was erected to commemorate the battle.
