Aurelian once spoke publicly about
Thutmose III. He said, "
I wish I was that man's gardener."
Seriously though.
Thutmose III is one of those Ancient Generals that happens to just make everyone's list of
Top 100 Generals of All Time.
He has a Masterpiece Tactical battle (
Megiddo 1457 BC). Most generals in these competitions don't have a battle of some noteworthiness. His was so grand, he was intelligent enough to use propaganda so that, 3,500 years later, we can still discuss it.
Besides this battle, he has a history of almost 20 years of continuous campaigning. Not a single defeat recorded in his name. Yes, that's right. Few generals on this list do not have single defeat. You can count
Thutmose III as one of those generals. For 20 years, his opponents never bested him.
And lastly, I have to go back to the propaganda. Propaganda is crucial if you are to etch your name that will last for over 3,500 years (
over 1,000 generations!!).
Yes,
Aurelian is a good general. And a deserving one to be on this list. But a vote for
Thutmose III will be a vote for Victory.
