The "Oath" of Alexander the Great - (Opis, 324 BC)

Before Ashoka and much better than Cyrus, Alexander III declared equality for all humans, regardless of ethnicity or race.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGwwvpQuJh4]The "Oath" of Alexander the Great - (Opis, 324 BC) - YouTube[/ame]

“IT IS MY WISH, NOW THAT WARS ARE COMING TO AN END, THAT YOU SHOULD ALL BE HAPPY IN PEACE. FROM NOW ON, LET ALL MORTALS LIVE AS ONE PEOPLE, IN FELLOWSHIP, FOR THE GOOD OF ALL. SEE THE WHOLE WORLD AS YOUR HOMELAND, WITH LAWS COMMON TO ALL, WHERE THE BEST WILL GOVERN REGARDLESS OF THEIR RACE. UNLIKE THE NARROWMINDED, I MAKE NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN GREEKS AND BARBARIANS. THE ORIGIN OF CITIZENS, OR THE RACE INTO WHICH THEY WERE BORN, IS OF NO CONCERN TO ME. I HAVE ONLY ONE CRITERION BY WHICH TO DISTINGUISH THEM VIRTUE.FOR ME, ANY GOOD FOREIGNER IS A GREEK AND ANY BAD GREEK IS WORSE THAN A BARBARIAN. IF DISPUTES EVER OCCUR AMONG YOU, YOU WILL NOT RESORT TO WEAPONS BUT WILL SOLVE THEM IN PEACE. IF NEED BE, I SHALL ARBITRATE BETWEEN YOU. SEE GOD NOT AS AN AUTOCRATIC DESPOT, BUT AS THE COMMON FATHER OF ALL AND THUS YOUR CONDUCT WILL BE LIKE THE LIVES OF BROTHERS WITHIN THE SAME FAMILY. I, ON MY PART, SEE YOU ALL AS EQUAL, WHETHER YOU ARE WHITE OR DARK-SKINNED. AND I SHOULD LIKE YOU NOT SIMPLY TO BE SUBJECTS OF MY COMMONWEALTH, BUT MEMBERS OF IT, PARTNERS OF IT. TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY, I SHALL STRIVE TO DO WHAT I HAVE PROMISED. KEEP AS A SYMBOL OF LOVE THIS OATH WHICH WE HAVE TAKEN TONIGHT WITH OUR LIBATIONS”.

THE “OATH” OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT
Wow.

"Are you kidding?" or "you can't be serious" would clearly be serious understatements here...

Have you at least tried to find any Classical source for that crap before posting it at Historum?

May the divine Alexandros forgive you...

Even Wikipedia says this is basically made up. That's saying something.

Thessalonian, I'm afraid that this is a fake oath. You can understand this in the part where he indicates modern terms like "white-dark skinned" (the ancient Greeks didn't make discriminations only against dark skinned "barbarians" like the modern colonial Empires, but every "barbarian"), plus we know that Persians weren't dark skinned.

The oath itself may be doubted, but the speech (even if it was altered) could have been given. Alexander's vision was not far from this speech. Interracial marriage etc. was supported by him, so instead of focusing on "bashing" me, you should better look at ancient sources to see how far was Alexander from that kind of ideology.

One of the reasons I became interested in Alexander the Great was because of his view on races of people other than his own.

The mixing of Greeks and natives were not intended to be the unity or brotherhood of man, but part of a policy to ensure the smooth running of his Empire. The mass marriages were intended to prevent future revolt. His motives for integration was pragmatic - for the army he needed specialist troops, he also needed locals for administration purposes. On the subject of the mass marriage - no Macedonian or Greek women were brought over from the mainland to marry Persian noblemen and there was no attempt made to encourage inter-racial marriages in Macedonia. In fact, when Alexander sent some of his veterans home from Opis - they had to leave their Asian wives and children behind. Doesn't seem very brotherly to me.

Alexander's vision wasn't far from this surely, I was just referring to the specific oath.
