Greatest Roman?

I believe the title od greatest Roman, while hard to define or place should go to Cincinnatus, who George Washington modeled himself after or at least resembled so that he was called the American Cincinnatus.
He retired came back to power to save the empire got dictorial power's to do it, then gave them away to the senate and resigned and retired to work his field's. A real Roman and leader.

It's good to give up absolute power, but it should be remembered that he was clearly a patrician and always used any authority that he possesed to keep the little guy down.

I am not quite sure if anybody can quantify what qualities would actually comprise the greatest Roman, but without approving of this statement one way or the other, Alexander Hamilton was quoted as stating that Caeser was the great man that ever lived.

The perfect Roman was Drusus the Great, the brother of Tiberius.

Augustus even wrote a book about his stepson!

Sounds weird, doesn't it?

Well, the book is lost anyway.

Without a definate definition of "greatness", I'll go for Pompey The Great.

Interestingly, like "Sir, your people are a great beast!", they were always relayed from friend's friend's friend's.

I can't not give it to Julius Caesar, and therefore Caesar.

But there are many, many other candidates, depending on what you admire.

I think that the only quasi-objective way of measuring greatness is by influence and in terms of influence on world history no other Roman beats Caesar, with the possible exception of Scipio Africanus.
