Bah, just posted a similar thread before finding this.

Why'd Herodotus focus his circular map around Taurus mountains in the middle? Would've thought he'd put Greece there.

That map is seriously flawed at some points. For example 290BC-235AD "Poles" and related text is complete nonsense -Poles formed only at around 1000 AD.

He did not. That is map "according to Herodotus" it is not one drawn by him. It was put together from his written accounts and descriptions of various lands. Title okamido gave it is bit misleading

Obviously he didn't draw this map. It's only an interpretation of what he wrote.

Yes it was. Ancient authors considered that Egypt was part of Asia.

If I remember well, there is not a single ancient remain of these maps. All of available "Ptolemy" and "Herodotus" maps are medieval works based on their descriptions.

A true ancient map is the Tabula Peutingeriana, posted before.
