Ancient maps?

Any good and detailed, academically reliable atlases of the ancient world that might be bought online etc.? Can't rightly quote Wikipedia forever.

Special interest in northern Europe/Russia/Scandinavia if there are any sources available (usually just 'Ultima Thule' or blank beyond Germania and Scythia).

There is the Barrignton Atlas... it's not cheap, though. I can't recommend any physical books from first hand experience, but I've also heard good things about the atlas by John Haywood. It doesn't seem to be available from Amazon, but you can find it in the Amazon Marketplace and Abebooks may have it as well.

Harvard has the DARMC (Digital Atlas of Roman and Medieval Civilisations). I wonder if there are any other similar online resources that may be closer to what you're looking for.

The Ancient World Mapping Centre has released a number of their maps for free, although you'll likely find them to be more Graeco-Romanocentric than you'd like: Free Maps | Ancient World Mapping Center

Romanosentric would be alright periodically speaking, as long as it's not another 'here there be dragons' outside the immediate Roman provinces.
