"Qidshu" [as Kadesh had called in Akkadian in the Amarna letters] was with Megiddo one of the main Canaanite cities opposing the conquest of that land by Thutmoses III. It's quite probably that it was under the power of a Mitanni king.
After the defeat of Megiddo there was a certain connection between Egypt and Kadesh [there are letters to confirm that Akhenaten wrote to the king of the city].
