Early Empire Discussion

Discuss the early empires and kingdoms, pre-Persian Empire.
I'll start with the Neo Assyrian Empire:
Starting from King Ashurnasirpal II, the Assyrians waged many military campaigns followed by conquest and mass executions. Tiglath-pileser III conquered Babylon, Urartu, and introduced economic planning through forced relocation. Shalmaneser V conquered Samaria and Israel. Elamites, Hittites, and Egypt were also conquered.

Assyria was the first superpower in the world. Previously, there was a balance between the major civilizations, but Assyria became the sole power. Their military was incredibly advanced that its logistics rivaled that of the Seleucids and Romans hundreds of years later. Estimates have their army at over 100,000. The Assyrians were masters of siege unrivaled until modern times. They captured Memphis in a day.

The Hittite Empire is a fascinating, if under-appreciated subject.

Wasn't there a supposed "dark" empire in the middle east at one point. I'm not sure where I read it, but they were a very early powerhouse in that area. I'm going to try and look into this but hopefully someone who is knowledgeable in this can shed some light

Middle Assyria was the only state showing no signs of weakness during the Dark Ages.
