how come there are so few movies about knights?

i was thinking the other day, hollywood has touched almost any genere, movies about cowboys and samurais were very popular, historical movies have always been done, but there are so few movies about knights you can probably count them on your fingers. in Japan they made an awful lot of samurai movies and they still make them and they're a huge success, why european public wouldn't react the same about knight movies?
why do you think movie makers are so reluctant in using knights?
I mean only way they use them is mostly in fantasy movies in the style of lord of the rings or game of thrones. And they work, they both are world success.
There are a lot of things that would work on film, shiny armors, swords, horses, kings, princesses castles, chivalry, battles, sieges, lot of historical figures and facts to represent. what do you think is the matter?

Not all knights were "knightly" many were out and out warlords. Look into some of the Knight orders like the Teutonic Knights and the Templars. One good movie was "The Warlord" with Charlton Heston and Richard Boone. Look into Gotz von Berlichten as well.

Cowboys are just popular because America went through a cowboy phase. Haha, there used to be SO many cowboy shows on tv that romanticized the Wild West. (Im an avid western movie fan myself).

I can see what you mean by no-one tackling knight movies. Maybe because its to tacky? They are the typical man saves woman yada yada. Now you and I both are aware there is much more complexity to knighthood than just being a hero, but we are talking about Hollywood here.

With that said, there are hundreds if not thousands pf medieval movies, just not quit focusing on knight hood. The history channel is coming out with a new show called the last kingdom about the Knights Templar, I'm really hoping it turns out good. I would like to see some more realistic knight movies myself.

The History Channel is going to be airing a series based on the Templars. Of course it will probably be about as historically accurate as Vikings (and it seems to be about a search for the Holy Grail), but hopefully it is fun at least.

The armor is too expensive. Knight movies have to made on the cheap because knights can't compete with Star Wars and Hunger Games.

Hollywood does not use real armor when it does not have to. You can use aluminum and fake leather to look like mail. Ever wonder why the show Vikings has warriors with Leather and no helmets? The English Warriors look fake and they probably are. Where is the Mail on the Bodyguards? By the way, there should be some kind of liner under the helmets as well. Borrow a pot from the kitchen and place it on your head. Tap it with something hard and see what I mean. You don't have to try hard... American Football helmets have padding inside and people still get concussions.

Spears and Shields can be had at cheap prices. Small axes are also cheap. Swords don't have to be Battle Ready. Search online for ancient Armor and Weapons anytime. I went to the Texas Renaissance Festival and came home with a staff made from Ash wood and a throwing Tomahawk. You could also buy arms and armor.

it's expensive to have an army all with mails. But don't tell me hollywood doesn't have in their stores ten one-size-fits-all machine made mails to use on historical movies.
