Todays Musical Fact defines ‘What is gospel Music?’.

Traditionally, the term “gospel music” refers to any music of the church. In America however, the term generally refers to African-American music based in religion, but using some popular styles, such as ragtime and blues. American Thomas A. Dorsey is often considered the “father” of black gospel music.

This is the beginning of a short article at: http://www.strange-facts.info/gospel...eresting-facts

Musical Fact:
Aaliyah, a respected 22 year old R & B singer and actress, died on August 25 2001 in a plane crash.
Her single “More Than a Woman” was knocked off the Number 1 spot in the UK singles charts by George Harrisons “My Sweet Lord” who died of cancer in 2001.
This is the only time in, UK chart history that, posthumously, one artist has taken over the number one spot from another.

Musical Fact for today: Beethoven's most important patron, as well as regular piano student, Archduke Rudolph, received eleven major dedications as well as four canons.

Rudolph was also Beethoven's only long term composition student. Over the course of their relationship Rudolph grew to deeply admire Beethoven, saving nearly over a hundred letters from Beethoven. He collected many first editions of Beethoven's compositions and signed copies. Beethoven also grew fond of Rudolph, treating him as his own nephew. When Rudolph became archbishop, Beethoven was able to serve in his court, perhaps as kapellmeister, and continue composing.

Musical Fact de jour:
George Antheil was an American composer living in Paris in the early 20th century. He has the distinction of being the first composer to use a typewriter in the orchestra. He also experimented with other noise producing machines as well. Eric Satie was one of his better known cronies. [It figures!]

Musical fact:

In a cantata, vocalists sing with musical accompaniment. It is characterized by sections where the vocalists speak melodically, instruments play for a period of time and then the vocalists sing. Cantatas are similar to operas, but are usually shorter. Or in other words a cantata is an opera without stage or scenery or costumes.
