in 1799, Austrian violinist and composer Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf died at the age of 59, at Castle Rothlottia, near Neuhaus, Bohemia
in 1882, Hungarian Operetta composer Emmerich Kálmán was born in Slokok
in 1913, Italian baritone Tito Gobbi was born in Bassano del Grappa
in 1948, Hungarian composer Franz Lehár died in Bad Ischl, Austria, at the age of 78

in 1936, American composer and conductor Carl Davis was born in New York City.

Whoa!! :eek: Carl Davis is American? Hmm, I didn't know that. I've always thought he was British.


My contribution is scant today: Premier of Rimsky Korsetsoff, Scheherezade in 1888. :)

Ooops! Late entry for 27 October:

Premier of Rach 2 (can't NB the year - sorry).

Also, this day (27 Oct.) in 1991 saw the death of Polish composer Andrezj Panufnik. A favourite of mine.
