in 1882, Hungarian Operetta composer Emmerich Kálmán was born in Slokok
in 1913, Italian baritone Tito Gobbi was born in Bassano del Grappa
in 1948, Hungarian composer Franz Lehár died in Bad Ischl, Austria, at the age of 78

Ooops! Late entry for 27 October:
Premier of Rach 2 (can't NB the year - sorry).
Also, this day (27 Oct.) in 1991 saw the death of Polish composer Andrezj Panufnik. A favourite of mine.
