Indian colonial troop picture. Need help?

old picture I've found recently. not sure who it is, but I'm certainly related.

I had a previous post like this, but with a group picture. So any help again would be amazing! even if you know a tiny shed of information, any is great.

And thanks for all the help on my past one!

P.S the picture might be around 1920, or 1910.

Well. He looks Indian. And not Sikh.
The bandolier suggests cavalry but the shorts suggest infantry. Possibly he could be some police type unit. I can't make out any badges.

The picture seems like a Indian soldier during colonial period.

The large trophies at the soldier's feet suggest he was being honored for winning some major competitions. I believe the fellow is probably police or infantry sometime between 1919 and 1939. The set decorations suggest that the photo may have been taken in India somewhere. Champion marksmanship suggests itself, so one might take a look at the Indian units of that time and place, and then look for men cited for winning competitions.

Hm. any idea on what I would put in? for the trophies etc. And my father once told me that my great great grandfather was Irish, and married an Indian during his time there. after serving in the Boer war, the second I think. So as you can see, they wouldn't be of true full Indian blood. for I remember my father said they left India around 1947, around its independence, Moving to Britain. Apparantly they felt more British than Indian, and it was growing dangerous where they were. that's what I was told anyway.

Oh, and they had servants, Which I imagine would be common for a British officers family in India? even if of course they were half Indian? not sure. this is just random bits of history I know about my family, which I've been trying to find out more. if anyone knows more about the social haiarchy, or absolutely anything related to what i just said. Mega thanks

Why not put the names on social media and see if your Anglo-Indian cousins respond (and tell you some more of your history).

Yes, search even with your Surname (father's side and mother's side) would make it easier to search. Best of luck.
