Three Kingdoms game

Three Kingodoms total war was announced recently and will cover the historical period of the 3 kingdoms in China ...

What you think of the weapons and armors historical accuracy?

Who cares? It looks like a pretty cool game.

The trailer makes me want to watch a modern high budget movie about the Chinese three kingdoms.

Lol I agree on that , looks cool , but some people in total war forums are crying for wrong historical stuff... personally I think the cooler the better.

I'm actually more interested in the grandeur of the architecture and cityscapes within the trailer than the weapons and armor.

It's regrettable since we can't see more of these ancient cities anymore. Modern high rise buildings look great in their own right but I wish that East Asian countries did a better job at preserving the ancient heritage and atmosphere in their cities with a hybrid modern-cultural look instead of concrete slabs.

Actually these days i have more faith in game designers than movie directors when it comes to doing their historical research. The main source for visual reference would probably be paintings or sculptures from the period. I'm not sure how much of that survived from the Three Kingdoms era or how difficult a period it might be to research as far as visuals go. The costumes look pretty specific and not overly generic so I assume they're at least somewhat accurate. I don't know enough about the dress of that period to know for sure.

I enjoyed it, but also I kind of hated it?

The battle between Lu Bu & the three sworn brothers have been depicted throughout the ages and basically everywhere and anywhere you search, it was a cavalry fight.

Red cliff had too many horses, this one did not have enough horses.

I mean, this is very much based on the Romance of Three Kingdom and not Record of the Three Kingdom.

Guan Yu uses Len-yan-ju, Zhang Fei using the snake spear, so very much RoTK. However, Zhang Fei's spear should be longer than Zhang Fei, but in the video it's like a quarter staff, much shorter than Zhang Fei himself & Guan Yu's weapon. So even then it is a bad depiction of RoTK.

Yeah, my thoughts are pretty similar. Basically the normal troops look fine, but fire arrows, torches, and these hero characters are not quite right. Their weapons were all invented much later and heavy stylized. There armor also incorporates later elements and the heros don’t even wear helmets. So there going off the romance of the theee kindoms rather than a more honest depiction.
