Naturally the scholarship is out of date, but the quotes of Frois are worth investigating.

Same - I never mix English and Thai (my two first languages) with them, like you it's always French and Japanese.

I always feel a sense of achievement whenever I can read something in Japanese. But usually, I resort to asking someone to read it out to me

I'm about to run some errands with the wife, but if you haven't found anything, I'd be happy to give you some quotes of Frois pertaining to Nobunaga. (I smell a blog coming on.....)

Sure, anything you can provide adds to the discussion. Also, I am starting a new thread regarding Chinese Architecture, may want to take a look.

Hey Parm, sorry for the delay. Been a busy week....

In order to not deviate too much from this thread, I created a new one:

I have exacly nothing to add to this interesting discussion. My ignorance is shameful. Having said that, I am very grateful to our experts for their contributions. Understanding Japanese culture is absolutely essential for understanding the events leading up to Pearl Harbor. This thread is, of course, no substitute for serious scholarship, but it is a starting point. Thanks again!

Kudos!
