Too much nationalism in this board

I apologize if I'm going to piss off some so-called "patriots", and I know what I'm complaining about here has been almost universal in online Asian history forums. The fact is, there has been too much nationalism in this board and too few really interesting threads.

People have kept talking about WWII, enmities among the Asian nations, socialist movements in certain (former) socialist states and other sensitive and provocative topics. Such topics definitely qualify for discussion in this board, but what about other topics? History is not just about hatred and atrocities.

What about literature, fine arts, life style, etc.? What about commerce, technology, agriculture, etc.? There are many different aspects of a society and relations among different societies. Not just wars, persecutions, social movements ...

I don't want to stop it. I'm just crying out so that I get relieved. This board is so depressing. Perhaps you can decrease the proportion of those totally political threads by posting more interesting threads?

OK, let's talk about "life style" (of the rich and famous? of Wall Street bankers? of the unemployed and street people? "alternative" lifestyles?). I can't any heated arguments arising out of those threads.

Agriculture? Communist wheat farms? Peasant farmers of feudal Pakistan? American tobacco subsidies?

Argue about literature? Impossible, right? Divorce literature from nationalism? For a while, maybe.

Let's become Quakers, have a Friends meeting, sit in a circle, and stare silently at each other. Or just stay offline and do sudoku.

Why don't you post some of those threads? How can you complain about people not posting these threads when you yourself don't.

Oops, posting before actually reading. Well, thank you for making this forum a more diverse place.

Actually, in my opinion, those topics you mentioned are rather boring ( no offense intended) as most of the interesting parts of history have had something to do with a war or with any other political reason.

My sentiments, exactly.

Haow85, you need to come up with these supposedly more interesting topics and post them here.

Fortunately, nationalism can at least fire some passion in people which lends itself to robust discussion.

People write about whatever interests them. You can't hold it against someone if they are a WW2 junkie and care for little else. If arts and literature interest you then you should post as much as you want about that and if there are people who share your interests they will respond and engage in a discussion with you. Don't be bothered about what others like, post what you want.
