Ancient Siege of Nanjing (c501 AD)

(had thread in 'ancient history', but this section may be more appropriate)

Quote from book on Chinese history:

...regent Xiao Yan. The letter retaliated by attacking Nanjing and after a long siege in which 80,000 people died from humger and sickness, Xiao Yan took the throne in the name of the Liang dynasty...

Can't seem to come across another reference of this siege in other relevant books - in this episode overstated?
