while there are such cases in all countries ( i mean poor and developing ) , the problem in china is heightened by one child policy.

anyway, outright killing of babies is what i objected.

i am familiar with this selective abortion and throwing away girls as these are problems with indians also.

I had a great moment of humour when my Chinese PA commented on my European business partner's bit on the side--a tall, blonde Dutch girl who he stashed in a flat in Discovery Bay. His wife was also tall and blonde, but South African. Young Emily wanted to know why he had two the same and did not use the opportunity to have a bit of variety.
Not much different in Japan. A lot of guys refer to their "legal wife", meaning the official one.
I wasn't here in the 1970s, Gezeer, but I can tell you that a few things have changed. In other parts of China wealthy men still have more than one lady and everyone knows about it. In Hong Kong, we only see women living alone in nice apartments and driving expensive cars, but they don't need to work. They keep it very quiet.

old china is one formal wife and some concubines marriage system.

late qing dynasty period is this system.

qing government falled down in 1911, then ROC is found, ROC give one law to ban the old system in 1912, but the ROC have not real ability to solve the problem,ROC's many officials have concubines too.

so it is only one symbolic.

Civil war ended in 1949, then ROC was beated and run to taiwan,as the new manager of country, ccp rebuilded the marriage system, started to ban the old marriage system, then new marriage law was founded in may ,1950, the law was serious implementation, then the one formal wife and some concubines marriage system was ended.

hongkong and taiwan are not under controll of ccp, so their old marriage system ended later.

china don't kill female babies, and that have nothing to do with marriage system.

people like son, that is the rest of old tradition, china use "one child "policy later, some people who have old extreme thought choiced to do abortion if they find the fetal is girl, abortion is legal.

then china started to build the law to ban the hospital to check the fetal gender.

after the period, people like girls nowdays.

kill baby = murder.

i have already rubbished the idea that people in china can kill babies.

this is nonsense, what happens is abortion and i can see china and india meet here .

in india too , government has banned test of foetus to determine gender.

the idea that chinese kill babies is completely false and wrong and is nothing but western dehumanizing the asian people.
