The Mongols didn't invade Japan by swimming there. Although they probably used Chinese designs, not my area of expertise.

The link to the tekkousen is in Japanese - you'll either need to provide a translation or else you can write and tell us about them.

Here are two types of ancient Chinese fire ships

Ancient Chinese probably started to use fire ships during Han Dynasty. The Battle of Chibi is the best example. They were still using the fire ships in Ming Dynasty.

Thanks for the add-ons, Purakjelia! Oh and just wondering, do you have a picture of a giant mega floating fortress boat like thing the Chinese used? I keep forgetting what it was called. It's like a square fortress... but on a boat!
Oh and the paddle-boat image doesn't work.

True, haha, but I think they used Chinese ships instead, but I'll take a look >

I couldn't find an English version of Tekkousen, but my Google Chrome can do automatic translates, so I'll post that here.

Here's a Google Chrome translated version of the Tekkousen:
Ship iron armor
Ship iron armor , and is, (said engagement) Oda Nobunaga is Kuki Yoshitaka commanded, Mori navy - navy Murakami was built of large to counteract the ship Ataka is.
Background of the building [ edit ]

In 1568 Ashikaga Yoshiaki was a Nobunaga played a proceeding to the capital it employs, and even then Mr. Miyoshi was continued, such as conflict with. Also, since 1570, and threatening the relationship with Ashikaga Yoshiaki, so-called siege Nobunaga became the thing to be deer. I played a corner of this siege Nobunaga in Chugoku Mr. Mori is the head temple of Jodo and Hongwanji is, Honganji since 1570, have continued to fight as a base for the Ishiyama Honganji Temple in particular. Nobunaga tried to conquer surrounding the Honganji Ishiyama this, because there was a support of Mr. Mori from the sea, naval force pushes it in order to sever this Mohri Seto Inland Sea, took over the naval Murakami Innoshima, and Nojima, especially (suffered a defeat to Mr. Kizu primary battle of the mouth ).
It is said that in response to this defeat, Nobunaga is a powerful families of the Ise-Shima, and was made by Kuki Yoshitaka, who led the naval force commanded this will ship iron armor is. Point whether there was a ship what it whether there was armor such as steel plates which is a feature of its maximum, especially Although there is debate, Yoshitaka Kuki is a battle of the mouth Kizu second of Mr. Mori by using a new ship some in challenge the naval force was sent out, broke it in the cannon is a fact.
Story say It should be noted that vessel is to be and has been with building six ships, after the battle of the mouth Kizu Second, what happened is unclear, after the death of Nobunaga is abandoned remains anchored in Osaka Bay, and were rotting the number of vessels are dismantled and small early story has come down also been reworked, etc. etc..
Of armor and truth or falsehood of Senka a legend that won the naval force of Mr. Mori, yet capital ship of the Battle of mouth Kizu second became the turning point of the battle Ishiyama, consisting of warship fleet of 600, its dimensions, by iron has become a present wrapped in a mystery whether or not, and that last moment, at various points.
Syllabus [ edit ]

The presence of this vessel he wrote of Goichi Ota entourage of Nobunaga recorded public Nobunaga Hidetoshi, and in-Tamon was noted diary Institute Tamon , Missionary Oruganchino of Luis Frois are seen in the reports, etc. destined for more information is Tsumabiraka is no, still have not seen the dogma. What is clear is that you have been equipped with some of the cannon.
Dimensions [ edit ]
That are described as (12.7m) (21.8m ~ 23.6m), width between 12 to 13 between 7 According to the diary length Tamon Institute.
This is (the first year of Tensho 1573 Sawayama lakeside in Lake Biwa, to) Nagahide Niwa, under the supervision of, there is a case of Ofuna dimension (12.7m) has been built between the width of 7 (55m approximately) length between 30 to [1] because, it is impossible dimensions and construction can not say. On the other hand, the dimensions by Tamon'in diary is for the captain sailing hull form to be much shorter than Nagahide Ofuna by this Niwa, low aspect ratio is not suitable.
Armor [ edit ]
The vessel is covered with a iron plate of a thickness of about 3mm hull, naval Murakami was good at baking pan fire arrow and armor and handed down for.
However, historical records of the same period have shown this is not only directly Tamon'in diary, is a description of the hearsay "prepared to go through gun unexpected. Will of iron ship, people will be laid ceremony" that is also called Tamon diary Institute. The report of Oruganchino that has been described in detail the battle of the mouth Kizu Second, "(Kingdom of Portugal are similar to the ship), the ship like this has been made in Japan is amazing "and the presence or absence of the armor is not mentioned in only some, for the presence of armor are not described in public Nobunaga recorded. Because of this point, that, what had the iron clad armor has become a question.
Possible when using a griddle, for quite some rust at the rate of seawater and sea breeze, they corrode, and could not be used only for a limited period of time in any case considerably.
But in later times, Tokugawa Hidetada head Ofunate shogunate Tadakatsu MUKAI ship "Ataka of the largest ever made, built in the round Ataka "is pasted copper plate was for the purpose of corrosion-fire to all of the hull and turret of total [2] is that had been subjected to an official of the shogunate record [3] has been confirmed from. Ataka Maru in 1635 has been built, it is ideas and technologies put a metal plate on the surface of the warship was present can be confirmed. This ship has been operating for nearly 50 years.
Crew [ edit ]
According to the diary Institute of Tumon, and it is believed that some "ride about five thousand people", that put this number from its dimensions is difficult. Nikki Institute Tamon is due to hearsay On the other hand, recorded public Nobunaga the effect that the building six vessels have been described, and 5,000 is the total number of individuals of six ships, opinion and a little over 800 people per one vessel also [4] .
Power [ edit ]
About the power of the vessel is not particularly described, has been estimated to be caused by cotton sails and caused folding, turret like a normal ship Ataka. If you have been subjected to iron clad armor temporarily, you can sail at a speed boat that can withstand more weight to practical use in this method is unknown.
