This morning I saw a news story about a Stone Throwing Festival in the Indian State of Himachal Pradesh, on Television. Known as Pathar Mela (stone fair) - this festival is celebrated 2 days after Diwali.
The mood is joyous and people participate in the Festival with lots of Religious fervor pelting stones @ members of the opposing party.
Please read the related news story here --->
The Tribune, Chandigarh, India - Himachal Pradesh Edition
According to the TV report and the press story the festival was introduced to replace the tradition of Human Sacrifice in Himachal.
Similar traditions are also observed in my state Uttarakhand.
Bagwal Fair and Barahi Devi Temple
I think Anthropologically speaking this tradition may be a remnant of the Stone Age and as such worth preserving and studying in detail.
It would be great to know about similar Festivals from other parts of Asia and the World.
