Admittedly, "Greatest Asian generals who aren't Genghis Khan?" would be a safer title for this thread.

hmm true. I guess your right. However genghis khan was more of a conquerer than a general so he wasnt always on the battle field when enlarging his kingdom. You are right tho.

Naaaa mate, Subutai was the apex of Mongol generalship, Genghis would better pass as a statesman, it shold be except "subutai" ^^

No I disagree, Subutai is overrated on this forum.
In the time of Genghis Khan then Mukhali was considered in higher regard I think. Though please I would like to hear your reasoning for this opinion

This would be a long list so can we limit this to just East Asia and not India or the Middle East like the last thread which was then totally derailed.

I'll just start by saying that in Japan it was pretty much Oda Nobunaga. As far as pure conquest of the Japanese isles then it's limited to more or less Minamoto Yoritomo, Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In the case of Yoritomo he rode on the backs of many generals like Yoshitsune, Noriyori and Yoshinaka. Hideyoshi's conquest though was very much a sort of allied effort. When he went on campaign the enemy would usually just give in to Hideyoshi's terms and join his government as a subservient daimyo. My other issue with Hideyoshi is that he never really had strong oppostion. His strong enemies were pretty much just Shibata Katsuie and Akechi Mitsuhide and in both cases Hideyoshi had a clear advantage. Everyone else was just a local daimyo with the odds heavily stacked against them.

Right but keep in mind that Tomoyuki Yamashita was only the commander of a corps and did nothing after taking part in the invasion of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Sumatra except for a wholly unsuccessful defense of the Philippines. During his time in the Philippines he may have been promoted to army commander but every time he was sent to South East Asia he served under Army Group commander Hisaichi Terauchi.
