Captain Stephen Pless USMC, Medal of Honor

August 19, 1967. Captain Stephen Pless, co-pilot Rupert Fairfield, Gunnery SGT. Poulson and Lance CPL. Phelps were enroute with their UH-1E Gunship, were speeding along on a emergency med-evac mission in a hotzone of Vietnam. Enroute they received an emergency call on the radio from a transport chopper that was shot up and grounded on a beach making repairs. It was under fire from a number of Viet Cong. The chopper was able to fly off, but four troops were left on the ground, under fire.

Thoughts on graduate study at Oxford

Having been at the University of Calgary for four and a half years now, I am nearly done my degree. Hopefully it will all be good at the end of the term and they’ll let me graduate. Although I have been told by the department’s undergraduate advisor that everything is set to go, I won’t believe it until I have the degree itself. A little over a year after I have joined, I've decided to try my hand at some speculative history again.


As most Irish will know, the Rebels lost in 1916 because they were outnumbered, outequipped and failed to gain any large areas of the country. But what if they weren't.
