3rd June 1991: IRA men shot dead by British army

Three IRA gunmen have been shot dead by the army in Northern Ireland.
Soldiers opened fire on their car as it drove through the village of Coagh in County Tyrone.

It was hit by a hail of about 200 bullets, before crashing and bursting into flames.

The attack is believed to have been carried out by a specialist covert team acting on intelligence.

Police said the men were on their way...

Milestones reached for women in the Royal Navy

Two Royal Navy commanders have accomplished two major achievements in the history of women in the senior Service.

Another milestone was recently achieved as Commander Sue Moore, 43, became the first woman to command a squadron of minor war vessels; the 1st Patrol Boat Squadron (1PBS).

Commanders West and Moore, both experienced commanding officers, are part of a cohort of talented female officers and ratings...
