The Lost Sword of Scotland

Posted May 13th, 2015 at 05:50 AM by AlpinLuke

I was thinking to a curious discovery I made in Scotland [near Tyndrum, among the Western Highlands]. I had occasion to visit a little lake [there they call a lake "loch"] with this particular stone with an engraved sword on it.

This sword would be in the lake [which is just the Loch of the Lost Sword]. There is a local tradition saying that King Bruce threw his sword in it, losing that historical blade forever. In this the tale recalls something Arthurian ...

Observing the lake, I was near to look for the sword in it [in fact it's not a wide lake, it's a bit wider than an Olympic swimming pool].

Regarding the tale beyond the legend, it seems that while the outlawed King Bruce was escaping from the English army, he ordered to his troops to throw their heavy weaponry in a little loch, among those weapons there was his own huge sword [the tale says he had a quite huge sword].

Curious, overall I'm curious to know if someone has ever looked for it.
