The Prior of Sion: to debunk a modern myth

The secret society of Sion.
This definition is an other name of the Prior Of Sion, a hidden secret society, perhaps a Knight Order, which would have the purpose to protect the blood line of the descendents of Jesus. Nothing else that the Royal family of David - of Israel- if we think that Jesus, according to the Gospels, came from that dynasty.
A consideration:
Israel is a little country and a little people, so this dynasty, from the viewpoint of a lay observer, wouldn’t be so important, but from the religious perspective the descendants of this family would be the descendants of a dynasty “chosen by God”.
An alternative would be the descent of Akhenaten [the "heretical Pharaoh"], but once again: why this should be so important?
After this little introduction, now let’s see more about this ghost order: Sion.
If we start from Brown’s Da Vinci Code, just as a base, a suggestion, not as a document, we have to consider 3 missions of this Prior of Sion: to protect the dynasty, to protect the tomb of Mary of Magdala - wife of Jesus -, to protect and preserve the documents which would prove this “facts”.
Brown introduces in the novel also the conception of the Holy feminine, the mother Goddess and even sexual rituals in the original doctrine of the early “Christianity”, which was not Christianity at all.
It’s easy to see that these “revelations” had copied by Brown from some books written by “researchers of the alternative history”, mysteries … just like me, to be honest.
The main source was “The Holy Grail” by Baigent, Leigh and Lincoln, 1982.
The second is “The revelation of Templars” by Picknett and Prince, 1997.
Paris and the “Dossiers Secrets”.
These documents were found in the National Biblioteque in Paris and they became quite known in the 60’s.
The main information we can find out from those documents is that the Prior was found during the Crusades, about 1000 years ago.
About this: I wonder how is it possible that an order found only 1000 years ago was so trusted to receive a so terrible secret – from whom preserved it before of the Prior – which came from 1000 years before …
Of course the Temple Knights are involved in this: the Prior created the Order of the Temple. In the beginning of the history of the two Orders they had the same Grand Masters, then there was a division and the Prior entered a total secret.
This tale has got no evidences or clues at all.

I read that novel and I found it a great work by Eco.

Pierre Plantard
If there is a personage who deserves to be mentioned in this matter is Mr. Pierre Plantard.
This curious guy created, from the null, the legend of the Prior of Sion [actually he declared, in 1953, to be a commander in a "Prior of Sion"].
A particular of this "Prior" is that, according to the statute, it took the name from a hill called Sion in France, not in the Holy Land. To be accurate, near to Annemasse.
As for I can see in the 60's Plantard transformed this "Prior" in a kind of lodge hoping to give new life to monarchy and knighthood in France.
About the documents issued and / or collected by the Prior, I report what Plantard's friend, Philippe de Chérisey (1923 - 1985), said in 1979

This ceremony, which would have taken place near Gisors in France, would have seen the division of the Templars from the father order of Sion.
Since this is reported in some books [ex. Sigiberto, the descendant of God - London connection
There is a basic document in the modern history of the Prior.
A letter written by the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, London to the owner of the castle in Rennes.
In this letter there is the mention of a document signed in the age of Bianca of Castiglia [Queen] and the testament of hautpoul [Nov 23rd 1644].
The document would confirm that the castle at Rennes was the hidden place of Sigiberto IV, son of Dagobert II, in 681 CE.

The tale of the Prior doesn't miss a presence of the Israeli intelligence [and how could it?].
In 1972 a personage appears on the scene: Mathieu Paoli a Swiss journalist who run some shows on radio [Radio Geneve] about the Prior of Sion. After that, in 1973, he wrote "Le dessous d'une ambition politique" [behind the curtains of a political ambition], where he discussed the present role of the Prior with the purposes to bring Merovinge back to the power in France
Then, Paoli disappeared. According to baigent, Leigh and Lincoln [our heroes] sustain he went to Israel where he acted as agent of the intelligence [also in Egypt].
The problem about this individual [and the tale sustained by the Prior conspirators] is that it's impossible to confirm it. No Israeli sources are available and in Switzerland they know nothing about the destiny of this guy.

Leonardo Da Vinci
I cannot be sure if Dan Brown was thinking to what the Prior claims, using the title "Da Vinci Code" for his novel, anyway it's a very curious information to discover that the great genius was a GrandMaster of the Prior.
Which hidden secrets preserved the artist?
This is the most common question I can hear around [going for example to see the Last Dinner in Milan, after facing the usual mass of Japanese and Chinese tourists ...]. But probably the correct question is:
if this Prior kept on existing along the centuries, why did Leonardo feel the need to hide secrets in his artworks?
Now, I know that Prior followers will think that actually I'm hiding something using the known method of the negation ... anyway [I cannot avoid such a curious double level thought] I would underline that Leonardo was a genius, not a naive student [to say all he always refused to enter a university to learn, he had occasion to teach, because he said he wanted to discover and to learn by himself not trusting the words of others].
So ... if we are a secret society and we preserve a secret ... will we put this secret in an artwork? Why? The list of the supposed Grand Masters.
Taking a suggestion from a recent thread in the message board, I'm adding something to this entry.
Looking at the list of the Grand Masters of the Prior of Sion [as it's presented in the Secret Dossiers] there are some remarkable personages.
Nicolas Flamel
Sandro Botticelli
Leonardo Da Vinci
Robert Fludd
Robert Boyle
Isaac Newton
Charles Nodier
Victor Hugo
Jean Cocteau
The above mentioned historical figures deserve a bit of attention.
What I can infer from this list is that the creators of the myth of the Prior payed attention to put together alchemy, art, genius, science, astrology, literature, adventure ... in a few words a sample of the highest level of human intellect. Sure they have selected an elite.
An easy comment is that it's difficult to understand why the Prior remained in France [the last GM are French] while the core of the high level of Freemasonry moved to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Why did the Prior stay in Europe risking all remaining in the scenario of the two World Wars? Why "Sion" and not "Zion"?
This can appear an irrelevant detail anyway some purists have underlined that "Zion" [traditional name of that hill in English translation of the Bible] would have been more appropriate.
So, why that choice?
A part that in Latin languages also "Sion" is correct [in Italian it's just "Sion"], there is also who suggests that the name is connected with Col du Mont Sion in the French region of High Savoy; or to the city of Sion in Switzerland.Posted September 10th, 2012 at 12:58 PM by AlpinLuke
