The Greedy Queen on Tour

Posted January 17th, 2018 at 10:19 AM by HistoricalGeek

Well hello everyone!

So, when I asked for feedback I've been seeing a lot of 'We want to know when we can see one of your favourite historians'... Well, here it is. Your chance to see, listen to and indeed learn from Dr Annie Gray. Some of you will know instantly just who I mean, but for those who don't? Dr Annie Gray is the truly brilliant historian you see on shows like 'Hidden Killers' 'The Sweetmakers' 'Victorian Bakers'... or perhaps you listen to 'The Kitchen Cabinet'? Yes......

Review: Britain's Lost Masterpieces: Season 2 - Episodes 1 & 2

Posted October 21st, 2017 at 04:03 AM by HistoricalGeek

Review: Britain’s Lost Masterpieces: Season 2: Episode 1: Glasgow.

So, this time Bendor is joined by Emma Dabiri. I would complain about the lack of Jacky but honestly? I love that we got to see more of Emma.

As before Bendor is joyful to watch although slightly overshadowed by his co-star.

Emma is naturally vibrant and just a real joy to watch.

A must-watch for Art History fans.

Rating: 10/10.

1816 – Where the...

Posted July 14th, 2016 at 05:59 AM by HistoricalGeek

I’d like to start by acknowledging that the fact that my parents kept these episodes for me makes this review possible. Right, now… here we go.

There are three episodes, presented by Bettany Hughes.

The first episode is about Buddha, who I personally knew little about.

As I have often commented on before, Bettany presents with real passion for what she’s talking about.

The Buddha episode is clearly well researched, as are the others,...

Review: Jambusters By Julie Summers

Posted July 14th, 2016 at 12:41 AM by HistoricalGeek

First off, this book is beautifully written, the inserted parts from people’s diaries or conversations that Julie has had with them feel almost like we are listening to friends telling us about their lives. Julie’s book is carefully researched but also clearly coming from a place of professional interest.

Julie also doesn’t shy away from using the introduction to talk about how the book became a base for the wonderful series Home Fires. For myself, who is not just a history geek...
