Review: Jambusters By Julie Summers

Posted July 13th, 2016 at 11:41 PM by HistoricalGeek

First off, this book is beautifully written, the inserted parts from peopleís diaries or conversations that Julie has had with them feel almost like we are listening to friends telling us about their lives. Julieís book is carefully researched but also clearly coming from a place of professional interest.

Julie also doesnít shy away from using the introduction to talk about how the book became a base for the wonderful series Home Fires. For myself, who is not just a history geek but also an acting type as well as a writer, this is fascinating to read.

The sections we get are wonderful as they present different sides to village and WI life in a way that is both easy to follow and engaging. Not all people can manage the balance, but Julie has.

As you can probably tell I havenít written this whilst reading, hence the shortness of the review. Will return to the usual style of review for the next book I think.
