The railways worked in collaboration with the Industrial Revolution in England during the nineteenth-century to play a crucial part in the lives of the Victorian people as well as the outlook of the city during this era. Baroque: Not just for Dictators and Autocrats

Recently, I was discussing the European architecture with a few friends over a few drinks when one of them claimed that “The Baroque style of design and planning is always utilized by authoritative governmental regimes when there is a need to convey a sense of power.” (none of us remember the exact wording so I might have paraphrased him ever so slightly) My response was somewhere along the lines “I don’t know think so bro.” However, the beers were getting the better of me and I could not respond...

New Imperialism and how it Contributed to the Origins of WWI

Personally speaking, I have always believed that New Imperialism played a large role in the origins of WWI. It created tensions amongst the European powers that was just shimmer under the surface. Because of this, when looking at the origins of the Great War, it would unwise to neglect new imperialism’s impact

(Disclaimer: this article purely focuses on the political causes of the First World War without mention of the ideological causes such as nationalism)
