A Shogunal Banquet

OK. Corny title, I know. It made me chuckle at least....

In case you haven't inferred, this particular blog post is about Imagawa Yoshimoto (1519-1560).

What comes to mind when you hear the name, Imagawa Yoshimoto? My guess, for most people, something like this pops up:

War And State Building In Medieval Japan (2010), is a collection of essays that deal with a wide variety of topics. Ranging from the mythological ninja to peasant mobilization during the Imjin Wars, this (albeit brief) book contains a great deal of information on Medieval Japan.

Like past reviews on anthology books, I will review each essay as a separate section below.

Akuto: Defined.....Or Not....

Well, it's been a very long time since I've added anything to my blog here. Who knew being a father would demand so much of your time?!

I hope to become more active in both my posting and my blogging here. To start, I thought I would make a short blog about a subject that has always fascinated me, the akuto.

There are different definitions for what actually constitutes an akuto. I hope to provide a wide range of definitions put forth by different historians here....

Toshikage Jushichikajo

So, I think it's pretty evident I like lists. Lists of generals, lists of battles, and of course, lists of rules!

The latest set of house codes are considered to be one of the first of the Sengoku period. Asakura Toshikage's Injunction of Seventeen Articles was written in 1480. Eight years after Toshikage took control of Echizen province for the Asakura family.
