Goddesses of the Past

Posted May 8th, 2012 at 08:58 AM by MinoanGoddess

Athena, Aphrodite, Artemis, all now lost in the past, their existence forever buried in the temples of the ancients.
Temples, votives, vases created to honor you.
But, the mortals of the present have forgotten you. Your temples are silent, only whispers of present day visitors can be heard.
There are no voices to call upon your sacred names, no rites performed in your honor, no animal sacrifices offered to appease you, no votives placed in your temples as tokens of faith.
Your existence has been obliterated, oh pure goddesses of the past, only remnants of your monuments have remained.
Your devoted servants had worshipped you for over 1,000 years, how cold is the human heart to forget you, you the goddesses.
The belief of your existence is gone, so your presence is forever lost, you are mere memories of the past.

"I was inspired to write this when I visited the ancient site of Mycenae, Greece"

One that me be interesting to research would be Isis-Noreia. An amalgam of the Roman iteration of Isis with the Germanic Noreia. Only one statue of her has ever been found.

Actually there are some people who have revived the worshiping of Greek Gods. So, no, they are not completely forgotten.
