Enamored Crete

Mystical Crete, the isle of enamored myths,
The birth place of the Mother Goddess,
of the forgotten Knossian King Minos and
Queen Pasiphae.

Your noble palace foundations lay bare as remnants of your reliced past.
The only reminders of your long lost civilization are your horns of consecration, your exotic frescoes, your lustral basins, and your bull leaping courts.

Your past is filled with myths of bitter and unsuccessful love, as the Fatal loves of Queen Pasiphae and Princess Ariadne.

Heartbroken Queen Pasiphae your unconsecrated love for a white bull led
Prince Theseus on a quest to your legendary isle.

Prince Theseus set sail from Athens in a black-masted ship bearing youths and maidens to offer sacrifice to your gods, to be devoured by an inhuman beast.

Theseus the embodiment of good must conquer the hideous Minotaur the embodiment of evil. But mere physical strength cannot conquer evil, it has to be assisted by the earthly human love of Ariadne. Strength provides the tool to conquer evil and love provides the thread which will lead the conquer of evil back to light.

But, Theseus’ love did not prevail and punishment for Ariadne’s betrayal for her people and fatal love was to be left behind on the barren isle of Naxos.

Sweet, innocent Ariadne, how pure love turns into bitteness, into an endless pit of darkness??
