King's Mountain Controversy - James Williams #7 The Narrative

Hopefully, historical research should always lead to some type of knowledge or understanding of events. In the prior six entries, this blog dealt with much detail as to what happened to James Williams at King's Mountain and the weeks prior to his death. I tried to bring my conclusions together into a coherent story which is presented here. Lakota Warrior Societies

Among the Lakota there existed several Warrior Societies. From these societies, prominent men were chosen to serve in the a
Aki'cita, a tribal police force, or guard unit, if you will. They also were responsible for the order of the annual Buffalo hunt.
But the main function of these societies was for the training and development of fighting skills and the warrior ethos. The cultivation of moral character was also an important aspect of the Societies.

Being a highly militarized state, warrior societies played an important part in the social structure of the Aztec, as a way of achieving status and improving ones place in the social order. All male children, beginning at age 15, were given organized military training. Commoners received their training at the Telpochcalli school.
Youths who did well there were taken on campaigns by veterans as shield bearers and other supportive tasks. At the age of 20, successful young warriors were taken...

Those That Have Influenced Our Passion For History...

I’ve been reflecting over the past few days, less about what has influenced moments in history, and more about what has influenced my own interest in this multifaceted subject. Since joining these forums in particular, I can’t help but notice a trend in the sub-forums and subject headings that pique my interest and compel me to read on. Perhaps it's due to the fact that I can now -see- the trends and the patterns to my reading that gave me pause, combined with the opportunity to consider -why-....
