War Comes: January 29, 1675 – John Sassamon’s is killed and body dumped in Assawompsett Pond a few miles south of Middleborough. John was a Christian Indian killed by three Wampanoags (including Tobias who was one of Philip’s counselor). A few days earlier Sassamon tried to warn the Plymouth Colony of a general conspiracy among the tribes led by the Wampanoags.
