Archive #5: The 1663 Stone Inscriptions

The 1663 inscription is engraved on the front and back of a single limestone stele. Here are the scans for both sides. Again, I had to use my scanning wand to do these, so some may appear slightly warped.

Archive #4: The 1512 Kaifeng Stone Inscription

I have to apologize for how some of the scans came out warped. I had to use my scanning wand because my printer scanner is on the fritz. They are not too bad, though.

I've mentioned the Judeo-Persian Haggadah of the Kaifeng Jews in a past entry. Because it is both rare and a tiny book, I have decided to upload images from Cecil Roth's 1967 analysis of the document. This way the book will be cataloged here so people can find it easily on the internet. With the exception of the cover, I'll post links so it will take up less space:

Kaifeng Jews: Why their ancestors came to China - Part II

By Jim R. McClanahan

BACK TO PART ONE

Proponents of the Song-entry theory often cite a passage from the 1489 inscription which reads: “Bringing tribute of Western cloth [西洋布], they entered (the court of) Song, and the Emperor said: ‘You have come to our China; reverence and preserve the customs of your ancestors, and hand them down at Bianliang (Kaifeng).’”[1] Considering...
