A quick word before I begin here. I am an unabashed fanboy of the Middle Earth world and of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies. I've read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit many times, and I've watched the LOTR movies many times as well. Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant was accused by Mary Lincoln and some Northern newspapers of being a "butcher" for the casualties incurred by the Overland Campaign of 1864.
