Aspirations

I'd like to start off by introducing myself. I won't use my full name for obvious reasons, but you may call me V, or Madrid. I am 20 years old and I want to become a historian. I've recently decided on this, and I can't wait to get started.
I've attended 4 semesters of college, but I keep changing my major. Most of my family doesn't agree with my choice now, they don't feel it will make enough money as a career source, but I don't want to do this for the money, I want to do this for the love I have for history. I have a particular interest in the 15th century rule of the Ottoman Empire, mainly started due to the book, "The Historian." To me, that book was a gateway that opened my mind to the rich culture and history of the Ottoman Empire more than it did of Vlad Tepes. Since that book, I've slowly started learning about the Ottoman influence in Europe in the 13th to 15th centuries.
One excellent book on the subject is called "Empires of the Sea," describing the maritime warfare of the Ottomans against Christiandom in the Battle of Malta and a few other choice sea battles.
I suppose, in writing this, I am looking for others interested in the subject, or even those well learned in the subject that they may begin to teach me what they may. With that said, I send this out as my call for knowledge. Any you have, I am more than willing to learn!
